Zurich in the UK is an Equal Opportunities employer. We wish to foster a working environment in which employees are treated with courtesy, dignity and respect. The opportunities available are based solely on your ability to do the job. Equality within the workplace also means treating people as we would want to be treated ourselves.
As a company we want to create an environment that gives everyone the opportunity to fulfil their potential without unnecessary and unfair influence. We aim to have a workforce that reflects the diversity of the working population in the communities in which we operate.
We will not discriminate on grounds of sex, sexual orientation, marital status, race, national or ethnic origin, colour, nationality, disability, age, religion or any other grounds of discrimination not currently prohibited by legislation and will seek to maintain a working environment free from harassment.
This policy applies to every aspect of employment including job advertising, recruitment and appointment, training, pay and working conditions. We will always aim to give all employees equal opportunity and encouragement to progress. Training is important to our continuing success. We will encourage all employees equally to take advantage of training opportunities and will not exclude any employees on the assumption that they may not wish to undertake training.
Measures
We measure all areas of our company that impact on our employees as stakeholders in our business. This includes issues such as equal opportunities, health and safety, training and lifelong learning as well as how employees are able to balance the competing demands of work and home-life.
Regular employee surveys are completed across the UK Business – the last global employee engagement survey was conducted in September 2011. The survey contains a benchmark question on CR and addresses workplace issues such as workload and equality of treatment. The results, together with the next steps in terms of implementation, will be communicated to all employees.
We have published information on our current position on workforce profile, staff absenteeism, turnover, training and development, pay and condition comparisons and attitude surveys as part of our full CR report.
