A leader in CR for the community
Zurich’s involvement with the community and social organisations goes beyond insurance. We have been supporting public services for over 100 years, working with charities and umbrella organisations to understand their needs and support them more effectively.
One example of this is our involvement in addressing the issue of school fires. We developed Arson Combated Together (ACT) along with the Fire and Rescue Services and other arson-related organisations. Its aim is to teach children about the risk and consequences of arson.
In addition our lobbying was instrumental in persuading the Government to ensure that all new school buildings include sprinkler systems.
We’ve introduced My Community Starter, a website that helps people who want to get involved in organising smaller, straightforward community activities to help people understand and overcome potential barriers to volunteering in the local community. The website will help the public to understand some of the legal, health & safety, planning issues and insurance considerations of whatever they are involved in. It’s free and available for individuals and groups.

We aim to donate our time generously
In 2009, we were awarded Charity Times “Best Insurance Services” and we were short-listed again in 2010. However our involvement with charity goes beyond insurance and we pursue many initiatives without seeking financial gain for ourselves.
We collaborate with a number of organisations, including NAVCO (national voice of local support and development organisations), ACEVO (Association of Chief Executives of Voluntary Organisations), CTN (Charity Trustee Networks) and the FSI (Foundation for Social Improvement) to reach out to all types of charities and help them proactively manage diverse risk issues. Through this network we work with over 10,000 different sized organisations.
Zurich also works with both local government and the third sector in the UK, to address the associated risks regarding outsourcing, tendering and risk management. We also run a number of innovative schemes that have been tailored to meet the needs of village halls and parish councils so local communities are more knowledgeable and better protected against risk.
