How to claim
What to do in the event of a flood
Flood water can severely damage buildings, particularly if flooding is prolonged and the water is deep. Before entering a property that has been flooded, check first for structural damage. If in any doubt, do not enter before getting expert advice from a surveyor or contact your insurance company. Even if the flood water has subsided, be aware that there still may be hazards. These may include heavy deposits of contaminated sludge, debris and sediment. Walls and doors might suddenly collapse and heavy objects may have moved and become unstable. When you’re ready to claim then call us on 0870 010 8888 or get your broker to do so. Don’t attempt to patch things up or redecorate until you’ve spoken to us. Photograph the damage that’s occurred to your home as this may speed up your claim. Your policy should cover you for being housed in alternative accommodation while your house gets repaired; either your broker or we can advise you on that.
