What to do if your windscreen gets damaged

Windscreen damage – even if it’s just stone chip damage – needs to be dealt with straight away otherwise it will only get worse and more dangerous. Here’s what to do:

  • Phone us straight away. You’re fully covered in your policy for windscreen damage (with the exception of Third Party, Fire & Theft policies) so you can get it sorted as quickly as possible. Our number is 0800 400 641, or if you’re in the European Union, use our claim and accident hotline which is 00 44 1274 658 073.
  • Alternatively you can also make a claim directly through to Autoglass via our direct web link » Autoglass

  • If it’s not safe for you to drive after an accident, we’ll arrange transport for you back to your home or to one of our approved repairers.
  • Depending on the size and seriousness of your damage, we’ll contact Autoglass who’ll either send a mobile unit out to deal with you on the spot or – if it’s, say, only a chip – will arrange to come to a convenient location for you.
  • Just show your current insurance certificate to the repairman. All you’ll need to pay is the excess to Autoglass. We’ll then pay the balance directly to them, so there’s no need to claim.
  • Claims made under this section of your policy (where there’s no other damage or injury) will not affect your No Claims Discount.
