FAQ's

  • What information do I need to provide in order to obtain an Engineering quote?
    Answer:
Please see the ‘Minimum Quote Information’ detail on the following page »
  • To what extent is breakdown covered under the standard engineering computer policy?
    Answer:
For cover to apply under Section 1 Material Damage there has to be in force an approved maintenance agreement and this policy would cover breakdowns which are not picked up by the approved maintenance agreement. An approved maintenance agreement is defined within the policy wording. Full breakdown cover applies under Section 2 Additional Expenditure but there would usually be a higher Excess in respect of breakdown where the Insured does not have an approved maintenance agreement in place typically £1,000.
  • Could you please give a guide on how to calculate the Additional Expenditure sum insured under the computer policy
    Answer:
Additional Expenditure relates to increased cost of working and recompilation of data and a useful guide in calculating the sum insured would be as follows:
    Computer Hardware / Staffing Requirements
    1. Weekly rate for hire of alternative facilities (including
        alternative accommodation and associated costs)
    2. Weekly costs of transporting staff to alternative
worksite and providing accommodation where required
    3. Weekly additional staffing cost e.g. overtime, temporary
        staff etc
Consider how many weeks for which facilities in above are likely to be required for TOTAL
    Software and Data
    1. Additional cost to reproduce bespoke software
    2. Cost to replace third party proprietary software
(excluding the licence fee where appropriate)
    3. Additional cost of restoring data from manual records
        (assume failure of backups)
    4. Additional costs to re-establish data in preparation for
restoration onto media e.g. re-working projects,
        research, stocktaking etc
Add together Computer Hardware / Staffing Total and Software and Data Total = xx

  • Can cover under a Machinery Sudden & Unforeseen Damage policy apply to single machines or would it need to apply to all installed plant and machinery?
    Answer:
Cover can apply to single machines but ideally we should insure all installed plant and machinery.  We would need details of the plant and machinery including age, new replacement value, type of work carried out and the current maintenance procedures.
  • Under a Machinery Sudden & Unforeseen Damage policy would operator error be covered?
    Answer:
Sudden & unforeseen damage basically relates to Accidental Damage and Breakdown cover and operator error causing damage is included as part of the policy cover.
  • What is the standard period allowed for breakdown cover during commissioning or testing under the Zurich Contract Works Machinery policy?
    Answer:
The standard Contract Works Machinery policy allows 28 days for commissioning or testing from the completion of installation.
  • In terms of hired-in plant cover, what makes Hire Association of Europe (HAE) conditions different from any others?
    Answer:
The main difference with the Hire Association of Europe (HAE) conditions is that the hirer must pay the full value of plant in the event of loss or irreparable damage, without deduction for age or wear and tear.
  • Is loss of data included under the standard Zurich Computer policy ?
    Answer:
It's a condition of the policy but more importantly an essential part of good business practice to back up data records frequently and we insist this is done at least once a week. This means that if data is lost, it's limited and it can easily be reinstated from the backed up records. Inevitably any data that is not backed up could be lost. Yes, we do cover accidental or malicious erasure of data. It is however very important to understand the scope of this cover. We will cover the additional costs incurred by you to manually reinstate the data that is lost but not the financial value of or personal value of the actual data lost or any consequential loss or legal action that stems from the data loss.
  • Is there a standard period of continued hiring charges cover under a Zurich Hired-in Machinery policy?
    Answer:
Whilst there isn’t a standard indemnity period set out on the policy as this should be stipulated by the customer, in reality most policies are set up with a 3 month period.
  • How many surveyors do you have carrying out inspections?
    Answer:
Last year* our 500 engineer surveyors carried out 3.7 million inspections for customers. The attached map indicates the geographic spread.
