Zurich provides best practice guide to underground service strikes

Zurich, Berrymans Lace Mawer and Cunningham Lindsey International Ltd have produced a best practice guide to help contractors and construction companies manage the risks, and mitigate the losses, associated with an underground service strike.

The HSE estimates that uninsured costs of a cable strike could be 10 times as much as insurance cover would cost for the same period. In addition to injuries sustained, possible penalties and reduced bonuses, the impact on your client’s reputation could also be significant.

The guide includes two inserts intended for use on-site:

  • a pre-works, on-site checklist outlining key elements to consider before starting any excavation work
  • a guidance note for site supervisors which provides key points for dealing with a strike and preparing for the claim.
